Baptism

If this is your first time bringing a child forward for baptism, or you have not attended a baptismal preparation class within 5 years since your last child was baptized, parents are required to attend a baptismal preparation class prior to scheduling a date of baptism. To attend this baptismal preparation class, please contact the parish office at 630-837-5411 or email at info@stpeterdamian.org. Baptismal preparation classes are held once a month on Tuesday evening.

Godparent Requirements

Although the selection of (2) godparents is customary, only (1) godparent is required for baptism. A godparent can be either female or male, if choosing (1).

If (2) godparents are chosen, (1) MUST be female and (1) MUST be male.

A godparent MUST be over the age of 16 and have received the Sacrament of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation in the Catholic faith. During the intake period, godparents are required to submit proof of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Proof of this sacrament can be attained by contacting the church where the sacrament was celebrated.

A baptized Catholic, who has not received all the above mentioned sacraments may NOT be a godparent.

A godparent is someone who is leading a life in harmony with the Catholic faith and the role of a sponsor.

A godparent cannot be the parent of the child being baptized and cannot be bound by any canonical penalty.

A baptized non-Catholic Christian can be chosen as a Christian witness provided there is at least (1) Catholic godparent.

The requirements above are required by Canon Law. No exceptions will be made to accommodate anyone who does not meet the requirements listed.
