Abstinence and Fasting Rules and Regulations
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, March 7th. The following are the regulations for abstinence and fasting to be observed by all Catholics in good health during Lent.
A fast and abstinence is prescribed for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and also recommended for Holy Saturday.
Fasting is observed by all Catholics in good health between the ages of 18 and 59. Those bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted, if necessary, to maintain strength according to one's needs. Solid food between meals is not permitted.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years and older on all Fridays of Lent.
