HUMAN CONCERNSBereavement
The Bereavement Committee lends support to family members in times of
need immediately after the loss of a loved one with prayer for the
mourners at the wake of a deceased parishioner.
For help after the loss of a loved one, please contact John and Mimi Warwick at
mbwarwick1@sbcglobal.net or
630-830-2651.
Funeral Luncheon
On occasion, families request a luncheon after a funeral. A team
of parishioners assist in preparing food and serving at the luncheon.
If you are interested in donating prepared foods or serving the meals,
please contact Kay Ghidorzi at 630-289-4512.
Giving Tree
Each year during Advent two trees are placed in the lobby of the
church and decorated with tags, each having the name of a needy person
and suggestions for gifts. Our generous parishioners take a tag,
purchase a gift, identify the gift with respective tag and place it
under one of the trees for distribution. These gifts benefit the
needy from St. Sylvester, Communities Who Care, Hanover Township, and
St. Peter Damian. For more information contact Maureen
Lesch at the parish office 630-837-5411.
“Have a Heart” Cart
When you do your grocery shopping, please
remember the needy and pick-up an item or two for the “Have a
Heart” cart. In the entrance of the church you will see the
"Have a Heart" Cart. Parishioners donate non-perishable food items
for families in need. We store this food at the church, and when
someone calls for assistance, the parish staff will make up a food box
for them.
Help for Families
Occasionally a family finds itself in a
bind due to illness in the family, hospitalization of a family member, a
long term illness, a recent death or other crisis. To assure that the
family members have a meal, four teams of parishioners offer to prepare
a meal for the family on a temporary basis. The teams rotate this
service. For more information, contact
Ellen Moll at the parish
office.
Marriage Encounter
The Marriage Encounter gives married couples an opportunity to
explore their lives together with an emphasis on communication.
For more information contact John and Mimi Warwick at
mbwarwick1@sbcglobal.net or
630-830-2651.
Ministers of Care
Ministers of Care are needed to take the Eucharist to those who
are shut-in at home or in the hospital. You will need to
understand the environment within which the sick find themselves.
Ministers are called upon to help families/individuals discover and
understand God's plan for them. Mandatory training sessions
offer insights into the manner and procedures needed to exercise in
individual circumstances. For more information contact Jim
Gallagher 630-837-7344 or at
jimgat5840@yahoo.com.
Parish Sharing
Through the Archdiocese Sharing Program
every parish in the Chicago Archdiocese is asked to enter into a special
relationship of sharing with a less fortunate parish. Your parish has
such a relationship with St. Sylvester Parish in the Logan Square Area
of Chicago. A special collection is taken up on the fourth Sunday of
each month and in addition, good used clothing and household items in
working order are accepted at the maintenance garage near the rectory.
For more information contact the
parish office.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Crafters knit or crochet shawls to be given to anyone going through
a time of illness, sorrow, transition, challenge, and joyous occasions
in life such as the birth of a child or marriage. The crafter
begins each shawl with prayers and blessings for each recipients.
Prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When
the shawl is completed, it is offered a final blessing before being sent
along its way. To volunteer for the Prayer Shawl Ministry, or
for more information, please contact Donna White at
dwhite@stpeterdamian.org
