VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 

Altar Servers
Young people, 4th grade and up are eligible to become altar servers.  They prepare the altar and carry the cross and candles in procession before and after Mass.  Their main purpose is to assist the presider during the celebration. Training will be provided.  Contact Karen Root at the parish office for more information. 

Children's Liturgy of the Word
We invite the children at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday to partake in the Liturgy of The Word for Children. After the opening of the liturgy the 3 - 9 year olds are invited to Hardy Hall. During the time the adult assembly hears the Word of God, the Scripture is presented to the children on their level. After all have heard the Word of God, the children rejoin their parents and the parish community for the remaining celebration.  To volunteer contact Pat Juvingo at the REP office at 630-830-2295. 

Choir Notes 
Now is the time to join the choir(s) at St. Peter Damian! If you like to sing and are looking for a way to become more involved with liturgy, choir is for you!!!  Contact Christine Bischoff in the parish office 630-837-5411 x314 or see her after one of the Masses. 

Coffee & Fellowship
Volunteers are needed to set up and pass out coffee and finger foods after the Sunday Masses.  A schedule is prepared and distributed to volunteers with their assigned date. Any donations of baked goods or finger foods are accepted in Hardy Hall prior to any Sunday Mass.  To volunteer, please contact Laura Kubasko at 630-837-6508 or Dan Rachke at 630-830-4527.

Eucharistic Ministers
A Eucharist Minister us dedicated to bringing the Body and Blood of Christ to all who desire it.  This calls for a Catholic who is in good standing and active in the practice of the faith.  A Minister must be reverent, respectful and understand that this is a privilege. Training is required and will be provided.  For more information contact Ray Arndt or Larry Schleicher at the parish office.  

Knights of Columbus
The Knights are volunteers in action committed to reaching out to mankind and making the world a better place in which to live.  Membership is open to all men 18 years of age or older.  For more information contact Lloyd Butts at the parish office. 

Lectors
Lectors are men and women who participate in the Mass and other liturgical services by sharing the readings and prayers with the people.  Their active role enhances the services and make them more meaningful.  If you are interested in becoming a Lector please contact Eileen Lucietto at the parish office. 

Meals for Families
Occasionally a family finds itself in a bind due to illness in the family, hospitalization of a family member, a long term illness, a recent death or other crisis.  To assure that the family members have a meal, parishioners offer to prepare a meal for the family on a temporary basis.  To volunteer to make a meal please contact Ellen Moll at the parish office. 

Ministers of Care
Ministers of Care are needed to take the Eucharist to those who are shut-in at home or in the hospital.  You will need to understand the environment within which the sick find themselves.  Ministers are called upon to help families/individuals discover and understand God's plan for them.  Mandatory training sessions offer insights into the manner and procedures needed to exercise in individual circumstances.  To volunteer contact Jim Gallagher 630-837-7344 or at jimgat5840@yahoo.com.   

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Crafters knit or crochet shawls to be given to anyone going through a time of illness, sorrow, transition, challenge, and joyous occasions in life such as the birth of a child or marriage.  The crafter begins each shawl  with prayers and blessings for each recipients.  Prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl.  When the shawl is completed, it is offered a final blessing before being sent along its way.  To volunteer for the Prayer Shawl Ministry, or for more information, please contact Donna White at dwhite@stpeterdamian.org or call the parish office. 

REP Catechist or REP Catechist Aide
A catechist works with the Religious Education Coordinators and the other catechists in a particular grade level.  They plan and implement the Religious Education Program in the parish and shares the belief that young people are important to the life of the church.  To become a REP Catechist or REP Catechist Aide contact Wendy Hendrickson or Pat Juvingo in the REP office at 630-830-2295.

Soup Kitchen
If you are interested in volunteering to provide a meal to those in need at a soup kitchen in Elgin, IL contact Michelle Parker at the parish office. 

Welcoming Ministry
Consider joining this group of friendly people whose goal is to make all newcomers feel welcome and part of the parish family.  Newcomers are informed of all the various activities available in the parish and local community.  Contact Fran Mackin at the parish office to volunteer. 

Youth Ministry  
St. Peter Damian High School Youth Ministry is looking for adult volunteers! If you like working with teens and are willing to be used by Christ, this is for you!  Please contact  Liz DeSimon at 630-837-5411 ext. 123 or at ldesimon@stpeterdamian.org
